On Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Westminster Abbey, Charles III and his wife Camilla will be crowned as rulers of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth states.

After the passing of his mother, Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022, Charles succeeded to the throne.

The event will differ slightly from previous coronations in order to honor various faiths, cultures, and communities throughout the United Kingdom. It will also be shorter than his mother’s coronation in 1953.

Charles will be anointed first, signifying his spiritual accession to the throne, followed by his crowning and enthronement, signifying his assumption of temporal authority and duties. The ceremony to crown Camilla will be shorter and less complicated.

Following that, the royal family will make a special appearance on the balcony at Buckingham Palace in a state procession.

Public events and festivities will be held in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, as well as the British Crown Dependencies and foreign territories, to honor the occasion in addition to the coronation ceremony.

The UK’s Coronation Big Lunch will take place on May 7, giving the general public the chance to celebrate with street festivities.
