A 30-year-old banker with Access Bank identified as Edmond Nashiru is currently behind bars after he was arrested for stealing a customer’s cash without his approval.

According to the report, the customer identified as Daniel Atigah visited the Tarkwa branch of the bank to withdraw money using the ATM machine earlier this year.

It continued that he was unable to withdraw the money which made him to enter into the banking hall to report his problem only to be met by Edmond who is a front desk officer of the bank.

Daniel explained his problem to Edmond who gave him a form to complete which was for a new ATM card but he never informed the customer of what he was doing but told him the problem would be resolved.

After a week, he returned to the bank to complain about the same issue but this time around he met a different person who assisted him and issued him with a new ATM card for his transactions.

Upon knowing that the customer had another ATM card, Edmond kept the ATM card he had earlier requested for the customer and was using it to withdraw money from the account.

The customer noticed the unauthorised transaction in his account and reported the matter to the bank who also investigated the matter and all evidence pointed to Edmond as the person behind the act.

In his statement to the police after the arrest, he disclosed that he withdrew the amount from the account because he had a church programme coming up and needed the money to fund it.

Making his appearance in court today, he pleaded not guilty to all the charges levelled against him but the judge sitting on the case remanded him in police custody and asked him to reappear on December 28th.

It’s said that the total amount withdrawn by Edmond stands at Ghc 9,190.57.
